Documenting Problems That Were Difficult To Find The Answer To

Another Claims Company Spamming Personal Mobile Phones

I received this message today on my personal number:

MARIE you could be entitled up to £4,999 in compensation from mis-sold PPI on credit cards or loans. Please reply PPI for info or STOP to opt out:

This was sent from +447557665926 on 2012-07-06 14:23.

This is absolutely intolerable! I’ve been involved in no accidents and I’ve no mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) to claim.

2012-08-23 Update

I received another spam message today to my data-only device (which means I don’t use it for messaging or voice or any other standard form of communications – I only use it for Internet access). This was from +447584240574 and sent at 2012-08-23 20:12.

Unsure if you qualify for a refund of PPI paid on a loan or credit card? Reply PPI and we will run a no obligation check or reply STOP to opt out:

It seems this crowd are spamming every single number they can guess. Something must be done to stop it.

Did you try replying STOP? Maybe it would help.

Never reply to a spam message: be it e-mail or SMS. It confirms to a spammer that your number is real and that you read the messages; you will only ever be inundated with future spam – and, potentially, one day you will read one you mistakenly believe is genuine. Also you legitimise unsolicited messages by obeying their instructions.
